Anya Walker
Speech-Language Pathologists
When I was little I spent a lot of time on the boat with my dad and uncle going on fishing trips. Personally I didn't do much fishing but instead spent all of my time "helping" my dad and uncle. With one of them at the back of the boat and the other at the front of the boat I would walk back and forth giving them each a single potato chip. And while I wasn't giving them potato chips I was "reorganizing" the tackle box either by size, color, or shape but never by their actual kind.
I have always wanted to be the person that could help others. My dream always bounced between being a nurse and a teacher. After struggling to read and dealing with undiagnosed dyslexia throughout my childhood I mostly wanted to be a person who could help those who in need. Following a career research assignment my junior year of high school I realized that speech language pathology could give me the best of both worlds of being a nurse and a teacher. The importance of this career then hit home even more during grad school when one of my family members experienced a medical emergency requiring rehabilitative services.
I enjoy spending time with my husband and family. I also enjoy playing golf.
